Interesting films again

It's the Leeds Film Festival again, so a chance to see interesting films. So far I've been to see two of them.

Interstella 5555

Saw this last Friday. It's Anime, except with no dialogue. Instead, the entire sound-track is the Daft Punk album Discovery, which is very funky.

The story is about a rock band of blue-skinned space aliens. They get mysteriously kidnapped, but our hero goes off to rescue them. From there on out the plot gets a bit insane, but it's certainly interesting. It's got a rather sad ending, but there are some clever visual jokes as well.

Apparently the 5555 stands for The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem. The film has a website.

Pandora's Box

Last night I saw Pandora's Box, a silent film from 1929, at the Holy Trinity church here in Leeds, with live organ. Good stuff.

The story is about Lulu, who young lady who is rather unlucky with men. It's quite funny in places, but of course it all ends tragically when she goes to London and ends up in the arms of Jack the Ripper.

The star is the very cute Louise Brooks:

A sexy picture of the actress Louise Brooks, wearing a pearl necklace, with some sheets draped over her.

That picture is from the Louise Brooks Society website. Their website has loads of interesting stuff.

Just took the annual web design survey that AListApart do. I don't realy consider myself to be a web designer, but I have been doing a lot of HTML and CSS lately.

Strange, there appears to be a bare-knuckle boxing match going on in the field outside my flat. Wish they wouldn't make so much noise about it.
