This ‘miniblog’ thing is just an idea for writing little notes. I'm writing them in a text file for now to see if they turn out to be interesting.

I have now eaten more than half a jar of Patak's Mixed Pickle today. Nice, but nowhere near as good as their chilli pickle (with ginger in, mmmm).

Found a reference to something called RDBA (Remote Database Access). The name makes it sound like something I'd be interested in, but I can't find anything about it other than the FOLDOC entry.

Someone's today registered a Debian ITP for the Perl ‘ooolib’ library (apparently for making OpenOffice.org documents). It ends up with the daft package name libooolib-perl.

Reading Royal Assassin, 2nd volume of The Farseer Trilogy, by Robin Hobb last night. I was surprised to look up and find it fully daylight. Good book. Lucky I don't have work.

Damn, bluebeard still won't respond after a reboot. It's infuriating having a machine broken but not being able to look at it. I should have kept it in Leeds.
Tuesday 16th, 21:51 »
Still no luck from bluebeard, after a reboot. I might have to go to London tomorrow to see to it. For now though, I'm going to watch Logan's Run and try to forget about it.

Note to self: no more coffee or pickles before bed. Chilli pickle does not encourage restful sleep and peaceful dreams.

Wow, I've had my first comment spam. It's on my crappy guest book. It's been live for 3¾ years, and some spammer has finally found it.
Friday 19th, 01:49 »
Tonight I finally got my Font::FreeType module to put several glyphs together. I've written the simplest typesetting engine I could, and it seems to work.

The ‘Fab Café’ in Leeds has a signed photo of Paul Darrow in his Avon outfit on the wall, complete with laser gun. They've got loads of other sci-fi naffness too, in a glass cabinet.

Smoked too much on Friday, and so didn't want a cigarette yesterday. I still haven't had one, so maybe I'm giving up again. Third time lucky?
Sunday 21st, 19:41 »
Watched the new Starsky and Hutch film. Doesn't take itself seriously, but good fun, and some great hair-dos.
Monday 22nd, 18:46 »
Just bought The Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary. It's going to take me a while to work out just how to use it. I noticed that Jeffrey Friedl, Mr Regular Expressions himself, is credited for programming work on it.

Just got home from work not 10 minutes ago. Bloody HTML Tidy and very crufty Perl for 16 hours or so. Marvelous.

Damn, all my socks have disappeared again. Mustn't wear the xmas musical ones to the office again. It's quite embarressing when they go off, and not at all seasonal.

Just had an idea: it would be useful to have a little tool to take an alpha-blended PNG and a background color and produce an opaque image. Handy for producing themes for a website, when an advertiser wants a blue background.
