Having finished my first job as a contractor, I decided to go out and give my Canon 20D its first proper test run. On the way I popped in to Jessops and bought a 50mm prime lens (the Canon one that goes to f/1.8). It's only £80 and I'd heard good things about it.
I ended up taking quite a stroll around random bits of Leeds. Eventually I came to some grassy bits near Yorkshire Television, and snapped some flowers. These are both at f/1.8, and you can see how tiny the depth of field is on the blue one.
I got lost, and found myself on a railway bridge. Thought I'd have a go getting a picture of this fly. Even though I couldn't get too close and don't have a macro lens, the 20D has a high-enough resolution that I can still get something interesting out of this. This, of course, is ‘digital zoom’, i.e., cropping. This one is not scaled down.
After walking a bit further I found myself in Headingley. I was knackered enough that I went against my real ale drinking principles and had a pint of Boddingtons in the Skyrack, just to cool down before the final walk home.
