- The results are in: my MP, Hilary Benn, got reelected in Leeds Central,
although with fewer votes, even though the turnout is up from the
2001 election. I should have gone for the Lib Dems. They overtook the Tories.

- Gimp tip: Go to File/Preferences and select ‘Tool Options’. There you can
set the scaling type to ‘Cubic (Best)’ to always get an (apparently)
better scaling algorithm. I don't know how much difference it makes though.

- The Lucene4c guy is trying a new tack. Rather than reimplement Lucene in C,
he's trying to wrap Lucene compiled with GCJ. That sounds nice, but I suspect
it will be hard to install on Debian, which seems to have trouble with Java.

- I've just completed a conference call using Skype! I couldn't get it to work
under Linux, and it took me ages to get the microphone to work under Windows,
but eventually it did actually work.
