This evening I saw a late showing of Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi/The Spiriting Away of Sen and Chihiro). I've been meaning to see it for years, but now there have been a few special showings to tie in with the release of Miyazaki's new film, Howl's Moving Castle. Hopefully I'll get to the cinema again soon to see that, although tomorrow I'm planning to go see Serenity. No decent films for months and suddenly there are loads!
Spirited Away is a fairy tale about a little girl who gets drawn in to a strange spirit world. There are witches and monsters and all sorts of magic going on.

There's also a rather nifty dragon, although I can't tell you what that's all about without a big spoiler:

There's a lot of the standard fantasy ideas in this, but presented in a very compelling and original way. I highly recommend it, although be prepared for a high level of anime weirdness.
