Objectives: To provide an introduction to Old Icelandic language and literary culture, with emphasis on the continuity of both from medieval to modern times.
Syllabus: An introduction to Old Icelandic in the context of the saga literature, Viking history and Old Norse mythology. Some texts will be read in the original; others in translation.
Form of Teaching: 1 x 1-hour seminar and 1 x 1-hour lecture per week (11 weeks).
Assessment: 1 x 1500 word essay (25%); 1 x language test (25%); 1 x 2 hour examination (50%)
